A bit of our history

My great grandparents acquired the house along with a piece of land in the year 1890. My grandparents then inherited and moved onto the property. Three of their children were born here, among them, my father. My grandfather was the captain of a ship that was responsible for deliveries of supplies to Fuerteventura.

In the year 2000, the property was transformed into a rural hotel. My parents, Andrés and María Victoria, created this project in order to generate rural tourism in Fuerteventura. They wanted to show that the island had more to offer than just sunny, beach holidays. After several renovations and thanks to their tireless efforts, the doors finally opened to their guests who, through my father’s stories and my mother’s Canarian stews, felt right at home.

My siblings and I are already the fourth generation to gather stories and experiences in this house. In 2017 my father suggested that I take over the management of the hotel – I was living in Austria at the time, David in Gran Canaria. I decided to return to my roots, and David was ready and willing to join me on the adventure. We wanted to uphold the concept: the doors of our house are open to anyone wishing to find a connection to the culture, landscape and history of Fuerteventura.

As a new development, we decided to open the kitchen to guests in order to create an additional common area (and because neither of us can cook as well as my mom). Due to the Covid-19 situation, we also changed the breakfast concept that I brought with me from my almost two decades of work in a European hotel chain: «You put together your own breakfast and, while you enjoy it in the courtyard, the kitchen or the dining room, we take care of the dishes». This concept has won over even our most sceptical of guests and is to thank for many lovely get-togethers on our courtyard terrace.

And don’t forget, our motto is: “Make yourself at home”.
